Sat. 10/20. Van de Graaff Park Walking Tour. Come to one of Tuscaloosa’s newest PARA parks and enjoy the fall weather (hopefully it will be much cooler by then!).This park was once a gravel pit operation. The old pits have become small lakes and have created some good wildlife habitats and scenery. The trails are relatively flat and easy to walk. We plan to make a loop of the connecting trails, so it is very important that everyone parks in the same parking lot. Meet at 8:00a.m. inside Gate#1 (has an orange sign, saying “Alabama’s Oldest Iron Bridge Ahead”). Re-route your drive accordingly because this is the same weekend as the Kentuck Festival of the Arts. I would not try to drive through downtown Northport. The best route is to go McFarland Blvd. westbound then left onto Harper Road (which is the intersection in front of Tractor Supply and Big Lots), then left onto Airport Road, then left into Cate#1. The walk will be 2-3 hours, so bring water, sturdy shoes, etc.
