This year, Bay Awakening has become Bay Inspiration. This year’s event will be a virtual celebration showcasing and benefitting our mission to provide citizens the means to protect the beauty, health, and heritage of the Mobile Bay Watershed and our coastal communities..

Join us for some fun with a purpose as Waterkeeper Alliance President and keynote speaker Gloria Reuben, a talented actress, author, and singer on the national stage, discusses efforts to fight pollution by a network of environmental organizations.

Guests will also hear from other select speakers including Mobile Baykeeper Executive Director and Baykeeper Casi Callaway, watch a short film highlighting some of our most important and successful work from the last year, and receive a copy of our annual report in the mail following the event.

Tickets are available in two tiers and can be purchased here.

A $5 ticket enters a guest into the General Entry Raffle and provides a link to the event.

A $25 ticket enters a guest into the General Entry Raffle and the Exclusive Entry Raffle, saves them an exclusive Mobile Baykeeper and Phins Apparel co-branded T-shirt, and provides a link to the event.

The first 200 ticket purchasers will receive a special set of notecards as a thank you party favor.

Information on how to enter the virtual event will be included in the confirmation email sent to the email provided upon your ticket purchase.

ABOUT THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER

This year we are extremely excited to have Waterkeeper Alliance President Gloria Reuben, a talented actress, author, and singer on the national stage, as our keynote speaker. She will be discussing efforts to fight pollution by a Waterkeeper Alliance a network of environmental organizations, including Mobile Baykeeper, who are working every day for clean water.

Her acting credits in television, film, and theater include portraying the HIV+ physician assistant “Jeanie Boulet” on the hit television series ER (a role that garnered her two Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe nomination) as well as many other television series including Raising the Bar, Falling Skies, and Marvel TV’s Cloak and Dagger. Gloria’s current acting role is “Eloise Hastings” on Showtime’s City on a Hill.

In film, Gloria portrayed “Elizabeth Keckley” alongside Daniel Day-Lewis & Sally Field in the Steven Spielberg film Lincoln, appeared with Paul Rudd and Tina Fey in Paul Weitz’s Admission, and starred opposite Samuel L. Jackson in Reasonable Doubt. Gloria’s portrayal of Condoleezza Rice in David Hare’s play Stuff Happens at the Public Theater in NYC garnered her a Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play.

Gloria’s career in music includes being a backup singer for Tina Turner in 2000, which led her to record her solo record Just for You. Gloria released her first jazz album Perchance to Dream in 2015 on the iconic MCG Jazz label. Her second album on MCG Jazz, For All We Know was released on Valentine’s Day 2020 to rave reviews.

In November 2020, Gloria was elected president of the global clean water nonprofit Waterkeeper Alliance.
