Sign up now for our Friends of Shades Creek Cahaba Lily trip with the Cahaba River Society on Sunday, June 12. The trip will begin by meeting at 8:00 at the Colonnade Shopping Center in front of Amped Fitness (Formerly Gold’s Gym) at 8:00 am and then caravan to the Cahaba National Wildlife Refuge. Participants who do not live in Birmingham may make arrangements to meet us at the Refuge, but that should be discussed with the guide ahead of time. Typically we are off the river by 3:00 pm, and participants then drive home. However, there are many possible reasons for delays, so participants should plan accordingly.
Cahaba River Society offers supplies, canoes, paddles, life jackets, and a naturalist with the expertise to allow you a unique, up-close experience with the Cahaba River. On this tour, you will see the beautiful Cahaba lilies first hand in their natural setting.
Please, plan to wear closed-toe shoes (old tennis shoes work great) because it is likely we will be wading and dragging our canoes over shallow rocky shoals, which can be rigorous and easy to stub naked toes. When water conditions are higher, we may alter the trip to best see the lilies and avoid paddling upstream.

Cahaba Lily Tours are vigorous outings. They involve wading both upstream and downstream on a rocky river bottom, and paddling both upstream and downstream in shoals. If a participant has mobility issues, this should be discussed with us before requesting a reservation. How much does it cost?

Reserve your spot now by emailing Henry Hughes at: [email protected]
Please, send reservation money to: Henry Hughes, 357 Lucerne Blvd., Homewood, AL 35209 (see below for amounts)
