“Collective Roots for A Thriving Community: A women’s meeting to co-create healthy food production, availability, and access
September 14, 2024 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Availability of, and easy access to fresh nutritious foods can be a reality for everyone. Whether you’re a woman who is an independent gardener looking to grow your own food, a practicing farmer looking to improve your methods, or form community collaborations to move your produce along, or provide a service directly related to food, such as preparing, processing, packaging/delivering food to consumers, your voice is critical to this conversation. On Saturday, September 14th, join us for an inspiring and timely conversation on what a thriving local food movement can look like in our community, where local women come together to discuss federal, state, and local resources that support healthy food production, availability and access in our community.
This event is tailored for women who are:
Independent Gardeners: Learn how to grow your own nutritious food.
Practicing Farmers: Discover methods to improve your farming techniques, and form new collaborative community partnerships for moving produce to reduce on-farm waste
Farmers Market Managers and Food Service Providers: Discover local produce sources, explore ways to enhance your food preparation, processing, packaging, and delivery services, and form community partnerships
Jayme Oates of Farmscape Solutions (Auburn AL based nonprofit), will discuss available grants, loans, and incentive programs, and how you can easily tap into these resources. She will highlight technical assistance available to farmers at all stages and locations to improve soil health, water quality, crop productivity and diversity. Harli Willis will talk about assistance available to veterans, beginning farmers and other community members through the Alabama Cooperative Extension Systems (ACES).
Most importantly, we will hear from YOU to create connections, share wisdom, and build a sustainable local food system. We will facilitate an afternoon discussion to reveal what we may accomplish together to improve our beloved community’s food system.
We look forward to meeting with you!
