FERC MEETINGS RE: SSE4 PIPELINE EXPANSION

There are THREE important upcoming meetings and a comment opportunity for the SSE4 Pipeline project coming up, and we want you there!

**What is the SSE4 Pipeline?**

The South System Expansion 4 (SSE4), proposed by Southern Natural Gas Company and Elba Express Company, would add 291 miles of new methane gas pipeline loops across Mississippi, through 10 counties in Alabama – including yours – and across Georgia. It will expand or add compression at 14 existing compressor stations. It is connected to a separate project (the Mississippi Crossing, or MSX) and is reviewed by FERC as part of a single environmental process. For more information, and to see a map, visit our website.

**About the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS)**

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is required by federal law to produce an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and must respond to substantive comments in the Final EIS. This is an opportunity for landowners and other community members to voice their concerns about the project’s impact on their livelihoods. You can review the full Draft EIS on FERC’s eLibrary here.

Alabama Rivers Alliance and partners will be attending each of these meetings and will have a table at the venue to provide information and assistance starting at 4:30 pm. Please stop by!

**How the Meetings Work**

These sessions are your opportunity to ask questions of FERC staff and submit official oral comments about your concerns with the project and its environmental impacts. There will be no formal presentation. Instead, FERC staff will hand out numbers upon arrival and take individual comments one-on-one with a court reporter. This format is designed to make the process as accessible as possible and to collect the maximum number of comments within the timeframe.

Your comments will be recorded, become part of the official public record, and will be publicly available on FERC’s eLibrary system. If there is high attendance, a 5-minute time limit per commenter may be implemented. FERC staff will also be available throughout the session to answer questions about the environmental review process.

SPECIAL NOTE: Sessions may conclude at 6:30 PM if all commenters have been heard, so we encourage you to arrive early.
