Tuesday, August 25 – Water is Life: Litter in our Waterways with River Network and Freshwater Land Trust

Join us Tuesday as we talk with Sally Larue (Freshwater Land Trust) and Karla Noboa (River Network) as we discuss how these two organizations are working together to combat the growing issue of plastics and trash filling our rivers and streams. Learn about River Network’s new Community Toolkit for Aquatic Litter Removal which highlights a variety of strategies, activities, and specific devices to help address aquatic litter in your community. Hear from Freshwater Land Trust about their popular plan to install in-stream litter collection devices in Greater Birmingham’s urban streams: Project Litter Gitter in Central Alabama. We’ll also share other projects like this happening throughout Alabama. There may even be a special surprise guest!

ABOUT THE WATER IS LIFE SERIES

Each Tuesday, starting on Rivers of Alabama Day (April 14), we invite you to join us from noon – 1 pm for this virtual get-together…with a purpose! We will be highlighting the role that water plays in our lives throughout Alabama and we will share how you can participate in the efforts to protect water, even in this new “normal”. You’ll hear from our partners across the state, and leading experts in water protection. We’ll even have a few river history lessons thrown in!
