Water is Life: Groundwater with Greg Guthrie and Bennett Bearden (Geological Survey of Alabama)

One of Alabama’s greatest assets is its diverse and plentiful water resources. Much of that resource is in underground aquifers.  Roughly 44% of the populations gets their drinking water from groundwater. Join us Tuesday as we learn more about the Geologic Survey of Alabama (GSA) and their role as a natural resource data gathering and research agency. We will hear about how groundwater differs across regions of the state and how it may interact with surface water (streams) in some areas. We will also discuss the policies that govern groundwater in Alabama.

ABOUT THE WATER IS LIFE SERIES

Each Tuesday, starting on Rivers of Alabama Day (April 14), we invite you to join us from noon – 1 pm for this virtual get-together…with a purpose! We will be highlighting the role that water plays in our lives throughout Alabama and we will share how you can participate in the efforts to protect water, even in this new “normal”. You’ll hear from our partners across the state, and leading experts in water protection. We’ll even have a few river history lessons thrown in!
