Water is Life: In the Sipsey Wilderness with Wild South

Hear from our friends at Wild South on their history and challenges they faced as they formed to protect the Bankhead and beyond. The Sipsey Fork is Alabama’s only officially designated Wild & Scenic River (for now!). Hear what that means and learn how you can visit the Sipsey Wilderness without leaving a recreational impact. We’ll also talk with Joe Jenkins, who has been working to protect threatened and endangered species in the Sipsey, like the flattened musk turtle and waterdog.

ABOUT THE WATER IS LIFE SERIES

Each Tuesday, starting on Rivers of Alabama Day (April 14), we invite you to join us from noon – 1 pm for this virtual get-together…with a purpose! We will be highlighting the role that water plays in our lives throughout Alabama and we will share how you can participate in the efforts to protect water, even in this new “normal”. You’ll hear from our partners across the state, and leading experts in water protection. We’ll even have a few river history lessons thrown in!
