Water is Life: Biosolids with Julie Lay (impacted community member) and Barry Brock, Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC)

Waste by-products (or biosolids), including treated human sewage and the waste from poultry processing plants, is being applied directly to farmland throughout Alabama and the rest of the country. Who is regulating this practice and what kind of pollution or toxins could be getting into our waterways and the food that is growing in the soil mixed with this sludge? Learn more about this practice and what you can do to stop it.

WATCH: Learn more about biosolids in Alabama by watching the 2020 Southern Exposure film, Soiled.

ABOUT THE WATER IS LIFE SERIES

Each Tuesday, starting on Rivers of Alabama Day (April 14), we invite you to join us from noon – 1 pm for this virtual get-together…with a purpose! We will be highlighting the role that water plays in our lives throughout Alabama and we will share how you can participate in the efforts to protect water, even in this new “normal”. You’ll hear from our partners across the state, and leading experts in water protection. We’ll even have a few river history lessons thrown in!
