The people of Bessemer were denied a chance to spe The people of Bessemer were denied a chance to speak at their own PUBLIC hearing. The railroading of the change in zoning shows the Bessemer City Council had no intention of hearing from their residents. The fight is not over for Bessemer! There’s one more chance November 18 for them to hear their community’s concerns. If you live in Bessemer, let them know you do NOT want this power and water guzzler in your neighbor’s backyards!

The latest on the proposed hyperscale data center in Bessemer, Alabama, right outside Birmingham. Once a thriving city steeped in the steel industry, Bessemer now turns to AI infrastructure to solve its economic woes.

The Bessemer City Council met last night and, desp The Bessemer City Council met last night and, despite overwhelming opposition from Bessemer residents, they voted 6-0 to change a definition in their zoning code that would allow data centers of any size to be built in any industrial zone in Bessemer. In an abrupt change from previous meetings, many Bessemer residents, and their neighbors who live just a stone’s throw from this proposed data center, were not allowed to speak or be heard about an issue that impacts their health, livelihoods, and environment. Stay tuned for lots of media coming soon about this!

This isn’t the end of the fight. The next City Council meeting will be Tuesday, November 18 at 9 am. This will be THE VOTE to allow for Project Marvel in Bessemer. Stay tuned for the latest information about upcoming meetings and ways to take action at by clicking here.

There are still MANY data centers slated to open across the state and Alabama Rivers Alliance is organizing a statewide coalition to address the onslaught of these energy and water guzzlers.
