Heather Griffin

Heather Griffin, Chief of the Nonpoint Source Unit, joined the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) in 2007. In her current position, Ms. Griffin oversees Alabama’s Nonpoint Source Management Program, which operates in conjunction with Section 319 of the Clean Water Act.

 

 

Throughout her tenure at ADEM, Ms. Griffin has gained extensive experience in various National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) programs, including construction stormwater, small mining, and industrial general permits. She has expertise in NPDES permitting, inspections, and enforcement across these programs, contributing to the Department’s efforts in water quality management and regulatory compliance. With a diverse career at ADEM, Ms. Griffin has accumulated extensive experience across multiple areas.

 

 

Mrs. Griffin maintains certification as a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control and is an active participant in several environmental organizations, including the Alabama Rivers and Streams Network, the Alabama Farmers Federation, the Tennessee River Basin Network, and the Pensacola and Perdido Bay Estuary Program. She also serves as the acting chair of the technical advisory committee for the Choctawhatchee Bay Estuary Program. Ms. Griffin earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Huntingdon College in 2003. Outside of her professional work, Heather enjoys swimming, hiking, and traveling across Alabama with her husband and five children.
