Kennedy Brown
community engagement fellow
Kennedy Brown is entering her third year at the great Alabama A&M University, majoring in Environmental Science with a concentration in Public Health. With this degree, she plans to become an Environmental Engineer and Consultant. Growing up with a deep love for nature, Kennedy has always been fascinated by the intricate connections between the environment and human health. Her academic journey and hands-on experiences have strengthened her desire to understand and mitigate the effects of environmental pollutants on human populations, particularly in vulnerable communities. As a young Black woman studying Environmental Science in the South, Kennedy has witnessed how marginalized communities are often exposed to pollution, unsafe water, and poor environmental planning. These issues are not random, they follow patterns of systemic neglect, racial discrimination, and lack of access to power or resources. She has been saddened because the people most harmed are often the ones least responsible for the damage and are the least heard. Kennedy aims to bridge the gap between science and advocacy and wants to make environmental data accessible to communities often left out of policy discussions. She believes environmental justice is racial justice, economic justice, and health justice. Her education gives Her the tools to identify environmental hazards, track patterns of ecological discrimination, and offer data-driven solutions to protect communities.
