Phillip Howard

Phillip joined The Conservation Fund in November 2022 and serves as Director of the Legacy Places program. In this role, he leads efforts to conserve, interpret, restore, and protect African American heritage sites across the United States, helping ensure that historically significant places and the stories they represent are preserved for future generations.

 

Prior to joining the Fund, Phillip served in the United States Marine Corps and later worked at the United States Department of Justice as a Community Outreach Reentry Coordinator. He is a graduate of Stillman College, a historically Black college in Alabama, and earned his MBA from Troy University.

 

Phillip was featured in the 2021 Southern Exposure Film,  54 MILES TO HOMES. which tells the untold stories of three families who risked their lives by opening their land to provide campsites for thousands of marchers along the 54-mile route of the Selma to Montgomery marches. Following the Southern Exposure Film Fellowship, Phillip continued helping tell this story as a producer on the forthcoming extended version of the film
