The Cahaba River Fry-Down, presented by Amerex, is an annual culinary community event, benefitting the Cahaba River Society (CRS). The event is the principal fundraiser for CRS and is in its 7th year.

Attendees can enjoy catfish prepared by the competing corporate and community teams. The taste test is sure to prove delicious, as the teams are then judged by high-profile judges for awards. The event will occur on Sunday, October 2, from 12 – 4 p.m. Admission is a $20 donation for adults, with kids 12 and under granted free admission. While the main attraction of the event is the fish fry-off, but there are many other activities and attractions, including a beer garden (featuring local craft breweries), live music, games for children and wildlife education activities for all ages.

The goal of this fun event is to build more support for Cahaba conservation, as well as bring education to the public about water quality, wildlife habitat and drinking water. The Cahaba River and its groundwater are a primary drinking water source for the Birmingham Water Works and metro area cities. The Cahaba is globally significant for freshwater wildlife, with more species of fish per mile than any other river of its size or larger in North America. CRS’ mission is to restore and protect the Cahaba River watershed and its rich diversity of life.

The Cahaba River Fry-Down, presented by Amerex, is a great celebration of the river and the diverse people of central Alabama who rely on it for recreation and clean drinking water.
