Flat Water Kayaking Race for Kids from Alabama Scenic River Trail

A flat water kayaking race for kids aged 9 to 18 is coming to Huntsville on June 9 for the Alabama State Games, and participants have until Monday to register. The word race may seem to indicate that entrants need to have advanced kayaking experience, but they don’t! This will be a competition of natural ability, and we’re excited to see who wins. Any older kid or teen who is confident paddling will be a good candidate for this event.
Here’s what parents need to know:
1.) All equipment is provided. This includes boats, life jackets and paddles.
2.) The cost to enter is just $10 for the next 90 participants. The cost increases to $25 after that.
3.) Lanes will be clearly marked, the race will be a short-distance sprint, and a safety boat will be on site.
4.) Participants have the option of participating in a televised, Olympic-style ceremony the day before the event, and winners will receive a gold medal.
It is the ASRT’s hope that this event will cement a love for paddle sports in each participant, and that it will encourage more kids and teens to get outside.
