Organizer

Sierra Club Montgomery Group
The next in-person meeting of the Sierra Club Montgomery group will be on Thursday, Sep. 15, 7:00 PM, in Room 111 of Goodwyn Hall on the campus of Auburn University-Montgomery (just north of the tall Library Tower on the south side of campus). Parking is available in any white-lined space.

One of our speakers will be Martha Hunter, who will speak about the Alabama Rivers Alliance, a statewide network of groups working to protect and restore all of Alabama’s water resources through building partnerships, empowering citizens, and advocating for sound water policy and its enforcement. They are in the process of organizing a group specifically for the protection of and public use of our local section of the Alabama River.

The other speaker will be Will O’Connor, who will speak about the River Region Trails, a network of pedestrian greenways, parks, and outdoor resources in the River Region. That includes a 30-mile connected loop of pedestrian trail that will link downtown to east Montgomery, including many neighborhoods in between. It will also include a trail system, nature center and boardwalk through the beautiful 260-acre Cypress Nature Preserve near downtown and will provide opportunities for schoolchildren and other visitors to learn about the park and its inhabitants.
