Herpetologist Andy Coleman will present: “Urban Turtle Project: Studying the Turtle Populations of Birmingham’s Urban Waterways” at the monthly meeting of the Cahaba Sierra Group.
Birmingham has numerous urban waterways that support an impressive amount of turtles, and this study was started this year to document and track these populations. These animals can provide insight into the health of our creeks and rivers. It has been a great first year of sampling, and results and future work will be discussed.
DIRECTIONS:
The address for Birmingham Southern College: 900 Arkadelphia Road, Birmingham, Al 35254. When arriving, inform the guard at the BSC entrance that you are there for a meeting at the SEC; they will also be happy to give directions. To find the Southern Environmental Center, take the first left immediately after the guard shack, go straight through the median stop sign and turn left at the T-intersection stop. The SEC is the building on the left at that stop, there is a marquee above the entrance that says “Southern Environmental Center”. There is parking in front of it and further down. A map of the campus can be found here (SEC is labeled #1): https://www.bsc.edu/about/map.html
