Water is Life: Ancient Life in Alabama with Dr. Bill Deutsch

Since Dr. Bill Deutsch moved to Alabama nearly 40 years ago, he’s immersed himself in its rich variety of fossils. The story of more than 500 million years of life is here in Alabama — just under our feet! As he says, “tropical seas teemed with sharks, mosasaurs, and reef life. Coal-forming swamps ringed coastlines with huge dragonflies and millipedes, slithering amphibians, and towering horsetail plants. Dinosaurs of several types were here along with toothed birds, legged whales, rhinoceroses, mastodons, and giant sloths— the highest fossil diversity of any state east of the Mississippi River!”

Join us Tuesday, December 13 at noon for the next in our Water is Life Zoom Talk Series to hear from Dr. Deutsch about all things under our feet as he discusses his latest book Ancient Life in Alabama: The Fossils, the Finders, and Why It Matters.

ABOUT THE WATER IS LIFE SERIES

Join us the second Tuesday of each month from noon – 1 pm for this virtual get-together … with a purpose! We will be highlighting the role that water plays in our lives throughout Alabama and we will share how you can participate in the efforts to protect water. You’ll hear from our partners across the state, and leading experts in water protection. We’ll even have a few river history lessons thrown in! Click here to watch any past Water is Life Zoom Talk.
