Water is Life: Burning Moody Landfill with GASP and Cahaba Riverkeeper

The Environmental Landfill, Inc. dumping ground in St. Clair County has been burning for at least the past six weeks, and non-profit organizations have been working around the clock to determine what that means for our air, water and public health. Meanwhile, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management and the landfill operator’s responses seem to lag behind. Hear from GASP’s Michael Hansen and Sidni Elise Smith and Cahaba Riverkeeper’s David Butler. We will discuss the ongoing fire, what it means for neighboring residents, communities and towns, and what can be done to address the immediate threat while keeping an eye on needed improvements to prevent these kinds of problems in the future. Join us on Tuesday, January 17 from noon – 1 pm for this timely discussion with those who have visited the location many times, and have heard directly from impacted community members.

NOTE: This Water is Life will be held the third Tuesday of the month because of scheduling conflicts.
