First up is Water is Life: Southern Rivers with Scot Duncan (@sduncan99)

“Southern Rivers: Restoring America’s Freshwater Biodiversity” explores the Southeast’s imperiled river systems and solutions for preserving them in the face of habitat loss, climate change, and extinction. The region’s rivers are the epicenter of North American freshwater biodiversity and are the top global hotspot for important aquatic animals including mussels, turtles, snails, crayfish, and fish, many of which have made important contributions to southern life and culture. As threats increase, it may seem necessary to choose between nature conservation and human needs, but Duncan persuasively demonstrates that this is a false choice. Conservation enhances human life. Alabama lost another legacy in the water protectio

Alabama lost another legacy in the water protection movement earlier this month. Colonel Richard "Dick" Bronson passed away on June 10. He was a founding member of Lake Watch of Lake Martin, which is one of the groups that helped start the Alabama Rivers Alliance. Dick was one of the first @alabama_water_watch monitors and he was also instrumental in the ADEM Reform Coalition which succeeded in, among other things, institutionalizing the opportunity for the public to speak at the Environmental Commission Meetings. He also worked with ADEM to create the Treasured Alabama Lakes designation which led to #LakeMartin becoming the first lake to achieve this designation. Dick was awarded the prestigious River Hero award by ARA at our 10th Anniversary Celebration at Alabama Water Rally in 2007. He had a profound impact on our waterways in Alabama and he will be truly missed by all.

Congratulations to the @ruralstudio at @auburnu and the academic and governmental partners involved with the wastewater pilot project in Newbern, Alabama! We were thrilled to be invited to the ribbon-cutting yesterday and to be a part of the discussions about bringing wastewater solutions to this area. This is a great step towards solving the long-running waste treatment issues in the Black Belt and beyond. Thank you to the Alabama legislature for devoting a significant portion of Alabama's ARPA dollars to solving wastewater issues!
