Tell President Trump to DefendRivers in his administration
Clean Water for all is of vital importance and is one principle in this political climate we can all get behind. Alabama has 132,000+ miles of rivers and streams and is the most bio-diverse state in our country. We must protect our beautiful and vitally important natural resources.

As river advocates, we are facing an onslaught of threats from both the new administration and Congress. In Congress, there are actions underway now to rollback the recently finalized Stream Protection Rule required by our federal government to protect sensitive streams from being bulldozed under as part of mountain top removal. This is brewing even as the Senate considers the nomination of Scott Pruitt to head the Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Pruitt is uniquely unqualified for this position because of his attacks on the EPA as Oklahoma Attorney General through lawsuits against the Clean Power Plan, the rule limiting mercury pollution from coal fired power plants, and the clarification of what waters are protected under the Clean Water Act. Mr. Pruitt’s inseparable ties to a laundry list of big polluting special interests make his nomination even more concerning.

While this is happening on The Hill, the Trump administration is quickly answering the call of the special interest lobbyists and rolling back hard-won protections from the Obama administration. So far he has re-invigorated the Keystone XL and Dakota Access Pipelines which pose demonstrated risks to our water resources and will contribute significantly to the increasing threat of Global Climate Change. The President is also making plans to undercut the hard work of the US Army Corps of Engineers and the United States Environmental Protection Agency to clarify which rivers and streams are protected under the Clean Water Act. This despite the fact that the rule, known as the Waters of the United States Rule, has withstood a detailed scientific peer review and is supported by millions of public comments.
Unfortunately this seems to be only the beginning.
Now is the time to let our elected officials in Washington, including President Trump, know that we demand they protect clean water and our environment. Please join us in sending letters, emails, Facebook posts, and tweets asking that the new administration reject all attacks on our laws and agencies that protect our environment and that they approve leaders for our agencies that will #DefendRivers by placing the welfare of the American People above the profits of the special interest lobby.
