Water is Life: Methane Emissions from Reservoirs
November 8, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
FreeWater is Life: Methane Emissions from Hydropower Reservoirs with Kelly Catlett (American Rivers), Sam Bickley (Virginia Scientist-Community Interface) and Jack West (Alabama Rivers Alliance).
Following on the heels of ARA and V-SCI’s recently published work showing that hydropower reservoirs in Alabama create and emit significant amounts of methane, join us on Tuesday, November 8 from noon – 1 pm to learn more about how these man-made dams and reservoirs contribute methane to the atmosphere and what strategies can be employed to reduce their greenhouse gas impacts. We continue to learn that dams and reservoirs are not as clean, renewable, or emissions-free as we’ve been told, and this is your chance to learn and ask questions about the science, modeling tools, and mitigation options.
ABOUT THE WATER IS LIFE SERIES
Join us the second Tuesday of each month from noon – 1 pm for this virtual get-together … with a purpose! We will be highlighting the role that water plays in our lives throughout Alabama and we will share how you can participate in the efforts to protect water. You’ll hear from our partners across the state, and leading experts in water protection. We’ll even have a few river history lessons thrown in! Click here to watch any past Water is Life Zoom Talk.
