ACTION ALERT! Tell Congress to protect the Clean W ACTION ALERT! Tell Congress to protect the Clean Water Act by voting NO on the Permit Act TODAY! 

The PERMIT Act is an effort to attack our nation’s most important and successful pollution control law, the Clean Water Act. This bill will eliminate protections that have helped clean up America’s rivers, creeks, streams, lakes, and oceans. This legislation would prevent EPA from developing accurate water quality criteria, weaken technology standards for water treatment, take away states’ abilities to enforce their own water quality standards on federal projects, allow polluters to shirk responsibility for cleaning up their discharges, allow more pesticides to contaminate our waterways, and give the EPA administrator unlimited authority to remove Clean Water Act protections from any waterway in the country. These impacts are just the tip of the iceberg in this dirty bill, and we need to make sure that Alabama’s Congressional delegation knows that all of our rivers, lakes, streams and bays deserve to be protected from pollution that threatens human and environmental health!

In case you are not familiar, the DRIFT Fund is a project of Alabama Beer Company. Managed by the Alabama Rivers Alliance and supported by a committee that includes the Alabama Scenic River Trail, Waterkeepers Alabama, and Alabama Cup Races, this fund is made possible through a portion of sales of Alabama LIGHT Beer. 

A gift to the DRIFT fund supports many organizations at once and primarily local, community based organizations where your dollars go even further!

We are proud to announce that since launching, the DRIFT Fund has raised $13,239, and has donated $10,988 to NINE organizations across the state, including Friends of Shades Creek, BlackBelt Women Rising, Huntsville Environmental Coalition, Village Creek Society and more.

We are so thankful to @blackbeltwr and @senatorrob We are so thankful to @blackbeltwr and @senatorrobstewart who have been on the ground supporting the community of Marion as the town lost access to water. We've been talking with them to see how ARA can help. A huge thank you to @alabamabeerco and our DRIFT Fund committee for their immediate agreement to provide emergency funding for BBWR to purchase water for the community during the outage. We will continue to be in touch with community leaders to see how to help more in the long term!

It was a long morning, but the Bessemer City Counc It was a long morning, but the Bessemer City Council heard from many concerned citizens about the plans for a MASSIVE data center bordering Bessemer and McCalla. Ultimately, the Council voted 5-2 in favor of the zoning change to allow for the development of data center.

We want to thank Councilmembers Cleo King and Donna Thigpen for listening to each and every community member and voting NO on this monster of a project.

By greenlighting this project while ignoring serious questions and public records requests, the Bessemer City Council has turned its back on the very communities it is supposed to serve. We remain confident that this project will not come to fruition in its current form, and ARA will support neighbors in their continuing fight to ensure that their questions are answered, and their homes, livelihoods, and communities are protected. Stay tuned!
