Wild & Scenic Film Festival lands in Birmingham Sunday, October 23

Festival will showcase short documentaries and films from the largest environmental film festival in the world as well as Southern Exposure films highlighting and exploring local issues

Birmingham, Ala. The Alabama Rivers Alliance and Alabama Environmental Council will host the 9th annual Birmingham screening of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival on Sunday, October 23 at Red Mountain Theatre Company Cabaret Theatre.

The centerpiece of Alabama’s Wild & Scenic program is a curated selection of award-winning films from the national Wild & Scenic Film Festival. The event will also feature Southern Environmental Law Center’s Southern Exposure  film seriesa selection of six short documentaries about Alabama’s natural resources and the environmental issues that impact all of us. The topics of this year’s films cover: energy efficiency, the business of recycling, connecting Birmingham to the Gulf, oysters and their role in our ecosystem, Alabama State Parks, and wastewater treatment facilities.

This year’s event will combine conversation and film in a new and engaging way. Have questions about something you’ve seen? You’ll be able to dip into the lobby during the program to discuss with experts working on the issues locally. Don’t want to miss a single minute of the program? Stick around after all the films and find out how you can get involved.

“For nine years now, it has been a highlight to bring these films to Alabama to spur conversation and action,” said Cindy Lowry, executive director of Alabama Rivers Alliance. “This is a great time for us to see and hear amazing stories about people around the world celebrating the great outdoors and creative solutions to care for the environment. The films are always inspiring and encourage all of us to be good stewards of our state’s environment – in an entertaining and engaging way!”
