Wild & Scenic Film Festival returns to Birmingham on October 21

Event will showcase short documentaries from the largest environmental film festival

in the world as well as the 2018 Southern Exposure films highlighting and exploring local issues

Birmingham, Ala. The Alabama Rivers Alliance and Alabama Environmental Council will host the 11th annual Birmingham screening of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival on Sunday, October 21 at Red Mountain Theatre Company Cabaret Theatre.

The centerpiece of Alabama’s Wild & Scenic program is a curated selection of award-winning films from the national Wild & Scenic Film Festival. The films cover a variety of topics including: community organization, exploration of unique characters, land preservation, invasive species, wildlife appreciation, adventures of the young and old, unsung environmental heroes, and more. To see a full list of films, including synopsis of each, please visit http://alabamarivers.org/2018-wild-scenic-program/.

This year’s event will continue our mission to combine conversation and film with a panel of local and regional experts on hand to answer questions and provide solutions and action items for issues Alabamians face every day. We will also feature the five films created during the summer throughout Alabama from the Southern Exposure Film Fellowship program.

“For more than ten years running, it has been a highlight to bring these films to Alabama to spur conversation and action,” said Cindy Lowry, executive director of Alabama Rivers Alliance. “This is a great time for us to see and hear amazing stories about people around the world celebrating the great outdoors and creative solutions to care for the environment. The films are always inspiring and encourage all of us to be good stewards of our state’s environment – in an entertaining and engaging way!”
