ACTION ALERT! Tell Congress to protect the Clean W ACTION ALERT! Tell Congress to protect the Clean Water Act by voting NO on the Permit Act TODAY!

The PERMIT Act is an effort to attack our nation’s most important and successful pollution control law, the Clean Water Act. This bill will eliminate protections that have helped clean up America’s rivers, creeks, streams, lakes, and oceans. This legislation would prevent EPA from developing accurate water quality criteria, weaken technology standards for water treatment, take away states’ abilities to enforce their own water quality standards on federal projects, allow polluters to shirk responsibility for cleaning up their discharges, allow more pesticides to contaminate our waterways, and give the EPA administrator unlimited authority to remove Clean Water Act protections from any waterway in the country. These impacts are just the tip of the iceberg in this dirty bill, and we need to make sure that Alabama’s Congressional delegation knows that all of our rivers, lakes, streams and bays deserve to be protected from pollution that threatens human and environmental health!

It was a long morning, but the Bessemer City Counc It was a long morning, but the Bessemer City Council heard from many concerned citizens about the plans for a MASSIVE data center bordering Bessemer and McCalla. Ultimately, the Council voted 5-2 in favor of the zoning change to allow for the development of data center.

We want to thank Councilmembers Cleo King and Donna Thigpen for listening to each and every community member and voting NO on this monster of a project.

By greenlighting this project while ignoring serious questions and public records requests, the Bessemer City Council has turned its back on the very communities it is supposed to serve. We remain confident that this project will not come to fruition in its current form, and ARA will support neighbors in their continuing fight to ensure that their questions are answered, and their homes, livelihoods, and communities are protected. Stay tuned!
Bessemer residents! The LAST CHANCE to have your v Bessemer residents! The LAST CHANCE to have your voice heard about the proposed data center, "Project Marvel", is this Tuesday at 9 am (Nov 18) at the Bessemer City Council meeting at City Hall (1700 3rd Avenue N). Don't let the final vote happen without YOU and YOUR VOICE.

We'll see you there with our partners at Black Warrior Riverkeeper, NAACP, SELC, The People's Justice Council, and GASP!

Please share with friends and neighbors in Bessemer. See our link in bio for more info!
